Preservation Awards Reception
In celebration of National Preservation Month, the Loudoun Preservation Society partnered with the Joint Architectural Review Board (JARB) to honor the dedicated individuals who promote and preserve our county’s precious heritage resources and to recognize the extraordinary preservation projects in our historic districts. The awards were presented at a special reception for members and invited guests on May 20 at the historic Thomas Birkby House, Leesburg.
The Preservation Society’s 2010 Preservationist of the Year award was presented to H. Vernon Davis. Vernon was honored for his decades-long leadership in the preservation community. He as an active member of the Loudoun Restoration and Preservation Society since 1975, and he served as chairman of various committees, including August Court Days and the Historic Plaque Program. He joined the LRPS Board in 1976 and served as an officer for many years. He became president in 2003. He led the successful merger of the Loudoun Restoration and Preservation Society and the Preservation Society of Loudoun County in 2009 and served as the new Loudoun Preservation Society’s president for its first year.
The JARB is composed of representatives from the architectural review boards for the Leesburg, Middleburg, Purcellville and seven county-administered historic districts. The JARB was formed in 2008 to recognize those individuals, organizations and companies whose projects in locally designated historic districts have made a positive and lasting contribution to the enhancement of their historic communities.
